so...Trump, pasta and Twitter

Trump, Pasta, and Twitter

This was last week, Twitter has an unusual rending hashtag: #BoycottOliveGarden
The trend, now overpopulated by desperate users seeking traffic by using popular hashtags, was on fire last week. Due to a rumor that started on the same platform. According to the people that started this, Olive Garden's parent company Darden restaurants donated a crapload of money to fund the Trump 2020 campaign.

For those of you that are outside the US and don't really care about the drama; I congratulate you staying out of it. Also, I have to inform you that now being a "Trump supporter" is the new insult nowadays. It not only comes with haters, it sure gives you traffic (not necessarily good ones)๐Ÿ’ฉ.

Back to the juice,

so this random lady created a list of companies that were supposedly funding president Donald's re-election campaign for 2020, Olive Garden being among those businesses. In a matter of minutes, the tweet was trending!
The heroic social media team of the brand, in an attempt to change the subject, launched a poll question in the middle of the discussion: “Which one are you? Breadstick dipper, breadstick breaker, breadstick hoarder?” ๐Ÿ˜Long story short, it didn't do well. People vented in the comments section. What to do now? well, we can try copy/paste the same answer to every single tweet that had that hashtag. ok, let us invest our time in that.

Internet magic (fine! advanced algorithms measuring strings of text that spike on popularity among users) can dictate how your brand is perceived, sometimes in a matter of minutes. With social media platforms constantly updating their content by the second. People buying into the trending section are sadly the majority of the networks. Luckily for us, we strive on those numbers ๐Ÿ’.

Whether this rumor was true or not, is secondary, people will go eat pasta and land free salads and breadsticks because they are used to it. The drama was sure costly for the marketing people and will probably be talking about this for a while but for now, the angry mobs with pitchforks has been disbanded.
That was negative marketing and someday I will write about it on my new section:๐Ÿ‘‰ WTF
See what I did there?? I added an internal link so I can milk an extra visit to my site. Genius!

Why are you still here, go save the rainforest!
