to Social Media, or not to Social Media

Online Social media arguably started in 1997, on a primitive website that allowed people to list friends, family members and make custom lists. This way of communicating has been constantly evolving and adding more features; some good ones and some unnecessary stuff we don't really need.
Not too long after social media emerged, businesses starting taking advantage of this. In the beginning, it was pretty easy but as audiences grow and platforms get more intricated, things got more complicated than just posting pictures of your goods or services.

This is what my brains think about social media.

    • ##thumbs-up## You will venture into somewhere crowded with potential clients
      • Audiences see personal posts and related things, but once in a while, they will get slapped with ads, sometimes the ads are very persuasive and end up on a sale.

    • ##thumbs-down## Constant monitoring is vital.
      • Online trends can and will change in a matter of hours (if not less). You must keep up if you want some attention online. 
  • [message]
    • ##flushed## Reviews/Answers.
      • Sometimes, the reviews you get from social media are from unhappy customers. When this happens you have the choice to ignore it, OR answer it politely and try to resolve the issue publicly so other people see that you care.

    • ##thumbs-up## Adds the cool to your brand
      • by interacting with crowds online and paying attention to reviews and visits, your clients will connect with your brand at a personal level, preferring you over that old fart next door that is still buying ads on benches.

    • ##thumbs-down## Competition being douches.
      • Once you start doing well online,  comes that store that sells the same thing about you and drop some crappy comments on your profiles "as a client". This is situational, but it sure happens more times than you would like.

    • ##thumbs-up## a free channel of promotion
      • well, that is pretty much it. Post whatever you want, whenever you want, for free. No rocket science here. (you do have to find the right balance)
  • [message]
    • ##thumbs-down## Gotta pay influencers to boost your business.
      • Influencers are those people that have more free time than you and utilize it very profitably. They know their social media game and can post your products on their profile linking back to you. The bad news? they love money more than you do.
This time, I believe, it is pretty much one-sided. The benefits of being active online surpass the absence of it by a lot.
